Melissa Lewis

Melissa Sofia Lewis is a graduate student at Stanford University in the Developmental and Psychological Sciences Program housed within the Graduate School of Education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Teacher Education, with a concentration in English as a Second Language and a Spanish Minor from the University of Delaware. As an undergraduate student excited to teach the next generation of scholars, she questioned how to support multilingual learners who need special education services. With these questions remaining unanswered, she began her Ph.D. determined to identify equitable ways to support this vulnerable population of learners. Specifically, she aims to support the writing development of upper-elementary-aged multilingual learners with learning disabilities. Melissa is also aneditorial assistant for The Teacher’s College Press Editorial Blog Series. She served as the Outreach Coordinator of the SWAYWO (So what are you working on) graduate conference and received Stanford’s Community Impact Award. She received the American Association of University Professors Grant (AAUP) at the University of Delaware. Stanford's Enhancing Diversity in Education(EDGE) fellowship supports her commitment to multilingual special education.
