Black Academic Development Lab

The Black Academic Development Lab’s (BAD Lab) mission is to integrate linguistic research with educational praxis and create a model of scholarship for dissemination.

Our goal is to create innovative, community-centered scholarly products. As such, the BAD Lab will establish long-term collaborative research partnerships with Black faculty, particularly at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). These collaborations will allow us to research the learning experiences of Black educators and students in education and other disciplines.

Why the BAD Lab?

Black educators want to learn to do well at teaching and research, but aren’t always taught to do so in their education programs. In addition, they may not have access to the full range of professional information to help them be fully successful at teaching, research, service, and outreach due to systemic racism. Black educators are working hard to express the full range of their humanity in their experiences in teaching and learning. BAD Lab research will address pedagogy and leadership both in PK-12 settings and in higher education.
